The “sash” in Sash Mortise Chisel means simply that these are made for normal furniture-scale mortising—that is, almost any you’re likely to do—as opposed to timber-size joinery.Each of these Sorby blades is individually hardness tested to assure consistent quality.

Handles

Sorby’s Sash Mortise Chisels use a Soft Grip handle made from thermoplastic rubber and polypropylene rubber. It is tough, durable with a steel striking cap durability under heavy mallet use. Soft Grip handles are 5-1/8″ long. Overall chisel length is 11-3/4″.

For many years, Sorby has offered the Sash Mortise Chisels with nearly indestructible red CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate) handles that come with a lifetime no-breakage guarantee.At 5-1/4″ long, the handles are as comfortable as they are durable, providing plenty of room for a full-fisted grip with no risk of getting your hand in the way of your mallet.Overall chisel length is 11-3/4″.
