Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate

Any time you sharpen with a waterstone, the surface of the stone changes shape. We tend to use the center of the stone – often causing the surface to “dish”. If the surface of a sharpening stone is not flat, you can’t get a straight, sharp edge.

Shapton’s Diamond Glass Lapping plate (DGLP) is specifically designed to precision flatten your waterstones. It uses a diamond abrasive electro-deposited to a glass substrate that is flat to +/- 5 microns. The surface has grooves to allow the swarf to flowaway during flattening. The grooves also prevent the flattening plate and stone from hydro-locking during flattening.

The DGLP is designed for use on Shapton stones from 500 to 30,000 grit, but can be used on waterstones from other manufacturers as well.
