Oneway Sure-Grip Steel Turning Tool Handle
Oneway’s Sure-Grip steel tool handles are a step up form ordinary wooden turning tool handles. Based on a design by Canadian woodturner Michael Hosaluk, Sure-Grip handles use a heavy duty steel core for strength and rigidity. Each end of the handle has an aluminum fitting with two set screws for mounting your tool – one end holds 1/2″ diameter tools, the other holds 5/8″ diameter tools.
Sure-grip handles are heavy enough to dampen vibrations and add stability without being too heavy . In between the aluminum fittings, the handle has a tough plastic coating because you don’t want the vibrations from turning to transmit directly to your hands. (It also helps keep the handle from feeling cold – even in a cold shop in winter.)
Need a longer handle? Sure-grip handles can be joined together for more leverage. (Just lock the end of a steel rod in one handle like you would a turning tool and lock the other end in a scond handle.) Need a bit more vibration dampening? One of our turners put a bolt in the back end of a sure grip handle and filled the hollow center with lead shot.
Sure-grip handles are great for use with Oneway’s Mastercut Turning Tools , but they will fit and tools with round shafts.
Adapters
If you would like to use a Sure-Grip handles, but don’t have a 1/2″ or 3/4″ diameter tool, Oneway offers adapters. Each adapter mounts into the 5/8" ech of the Sure-Grip handle. One adapter holds 3/8″ diameter tools and the other holds 3/4″.
Size
The large Sure-Grip handle is 17-1/2″ long and weighs 2.5lbs. The short Sure-Grip handle is 12″ long and weighs 1.75lbs. Both sizes work the same, but the aluminum fittings are slightly smaller on the short tool.
Dampen vibration and add mass and rigidity to your favorite turning tool by mounting them in these heavy, plastic-coated steel tool handles. Each handle is bored to 5/8″ at one end, 1/2″ at the other; two set screws lock tools firmly in place for smooth, fully controlled turning.2.5 lbs.
