Nicholson’s stout birch file handles have a wax finish and a nickel-plated steel ferrule. They will fit files and rasps from many manufacturers. The file tang wedges into the hole in the handle.
To seat the file, fit it in the handle and tap the butt end of the handle on your workbench or other solid surface. Do not hit the end of the file to seat it.
