Replacement heads add amazing versatility to the Festool HL 850 E Planer . In addition to the smooth surface acheived with the standard cutterhead, the HL 850 E can create a variety of distressed and rough-hewn surfaces with Festool’s Rustic Heads. The heads are precisely machined from solid aluminum blocks. The indexed knife is easily change by loosing three screws. You can swap heads on the planer in seconds.
Head Types
Festool offers the standard smooth head and three rustic heads for the HL 850 E – coarse, fine & undulating. The coarse head is used to create very rough-hewn or heavily distressed surfaces. The fine head gives a less distressed look. The undulating head makes a hand-hewn look similar to what you would see on on a workpiece shaped with an adze .
If you want your distressed surface to look aged and worn, we recommend smoothing the surface with a Rotex Sander and Festool’s Vlies abrasive .
